Woman Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Stop Assault Succumbs to Injuries

A woman stabbed repeatedly to her neck area during a random assault near a bus shelter in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.

The victim, who was 34, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, West Midlands Police said.

The suspect, 21, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the violent incident.

Originally charged of attempted murder however after the woman's death the charge has been updated to include murder.

Police Response

The force said officers would be around the city centre on Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who might have observed the accused, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers and rucksack.

The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating they were working to understand why it happened.

Eyewitness Reports

Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted the emergency response when she finished her shift around 10 PM Friday night.

She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.

"Many my colleagues use transit services, take the tram... our security is compromised fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Another individual, 25, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came to Birmingham fairly regularly visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern regarding the incident.

"It causes concern about my partner," he said.

"She doesn't drive and works at major concert locations... and to think something completely unprovoked [happened], you know, it's terrible."
